Sophie Howell is a filmmaker with a passion for directing absurd and dark comedies. She has directed the award-winning short film Everything is Disconnected (watch it on YouTube!) and the short film Ghostwriter. She is currently in development for her next short film, Doppleganghair, an absurd comedy about the horrors of early-onset male pattern baldness.
Her directing roots trace back to theatre, having directed The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged (Company B) for Swine Palace Regional Theatre and Skywatchers at LSU’s undergraduate black box theatre. She is committed to pushing boundaries in storytelling, with the ultimate goal of directing feature films, and returning to the stage to direct more plays.
As the founder of Alexandra Production House, Sophie produces films that embrace the comedically dark and absurd. She is dedicated to developing original, daring projects that challenge conventions and create memorable, thought-provoking experiences. Whether she’s directing or producing, she thrives in bringing bold visions to life with a keen eye for both narrative and technical execution.
In addition to her work as a director and producer, Sophie is an experienced script supervisor, balancing precision with creativity to ensure continuity and script integrity. She sees the role as a culmination of her film knowledge—allowing her to collaborate effectively with actors, assist directors without overstepping, and act as the on-set representative for both the writer and editor. Known for her warm and chill presence on set, she delivers information in a way that is clear, constructive, and collaborative, ensuring that every project stays true to its vision from script to screen.
